Artisans at the Distillery is having a Mid-Summer Craft show from July 31, 2010 through August 2, 2010. All crafts are Canadian made. The show features hand-crafted jewellery, ceramics, dolls, hats, clothing, gourmet food, textiles, photography, etc. Admission is FREE. Everyone is welcome.

Markham Village Music Festival

The 32nd annual Markham Village Music Festival is this weekend, June 18 and 19, 2010. From classical, to hip hop, to country, there will be lots of great music for everyone to enjoy. Admission is FREE.

The festival kicks off Friday, June 18, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. Come on an empty stomach to enjoy all the delicious foods offered by street vendors (and from the local pubs and restaurants). Free live performances from The Groove Suit, Uptown Swing Band and King of Nothing bring music to the street starting at 8:00 p.m.

On Saturday, there will be four stages set up to accommodate live entertainment throughout Markham Village. ABBA Gold takes the stage at 2:00 p.m., followed by a variety of music performed by over twenty bands. Linger with the crowd and enjoy some shopping from vendors selling jewellery, art, garden accessories, clothing, etc.

It’s all about fair trade and supporting more than 35 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. You’ll find beautiful handcrafted items such as: pottery, jewellery, home and personal accessories, carpets, toys, games, unique art, Christmas decorations, and many more. Admission is FREE.

Relax and sample traditional Mennonite baking at the Tea Room. Then join in the caroling on Friday and Saturday by members of the Pax Christi Chorale. Best of all, you’ll leave with a good feeling that you’re supporting more than 130 artisans from these countries.

The 28th Annual Swedish Christmas Fair at the Harbourfront Centre is on this Saturday, November 21, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Bring the family and experience the magic of a traditional Swedish Christmas. Admission is FREE. Delight your taste buds with home-baked goods like saffron bread, gingerbread cookies, and imported Swedish food. Swedish homemade crafts will also be on sale; Swedish crystal, jewellery, textiles, Christmas decorations, advent calendars and other traditional gifts. You can partake in one of their workshops and learn how to make Swedish crafts and bake gingerbread cookies.

Free Admission – Beach Studio Tours

From October 16 to 18, 2009, artists in the Beaches area will be opening up their homes and studios to the public. Whether it’s oil or watercolour paintings, ceramics, jewellery, or handwoven clothing and accessories, you can get a behind the scenes look at where all these things are created from. Twenty three artists will be participating in this Beach Studio Tour, so there is plenty to see. Each artist will also be giving away one FREE door prize. Admission is FREE.

A list of the artist’s homes can be downloaded here. Or make a day out of it and head out to the Beaches. Information about the tour will be posted at major intersections and various locations throughout the Beaches areas. Hours are:
