Celebrate Chinese New Year “Year of the Dragon” at the Harbourfront Centre this weekend. The Lunar Festival celebrations start today through January 24, 2012. Admission is Free. See the world’s first “Lantern Aquarium” in honor of the sea dragon, and get a free Dragon Lantern Hat. Highlights include “The Boy, The Shark and the Sea”, a shadow puppet show. Lots of other free and fun activities for the whole family.

Grab your skates and head to the grand opening of Markham’s Civic Centre Ice Rink on Saturday, December 10, 2011. Everyone is welcome. Admission is free. Celebration Event time: 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Public Skating: 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. There will be plenty of room for everyone in this new rink (GTA’s largest outdoor ice rink). Activities include: entertainment on ice, food, music, and more. Skate-sharpening and skate-guards will be available onsite.

Special appearances by Olympian Steven Cousins, Toronto Maple Leaf Mike Komisarek and TML mascot Carlton the Bear, former NHL player and Markham Waxer Steve Thomas, and 4-time Olympic Winter Games medalist Becky Kellar. Special performance by international singing sensation Tim McCallum.
